Who should attend

All members of public wanting to learn what to do in case of choking or cardiac arrest. The course is open to all persons aged about 12 years and older depending on maturity levels.

What is covered in this course?

The course provides hands-on practice in the skills of CPR and choking in adults, children and infants, including the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), barrier devices and pocket masks, and how to activate the emergency services.

Do I receive a course manual?

Yes. A 17-page CPR for Everyone Student Manual printed in colour is provided to each participant for review before, during and after the course. You must receive your student manual no later than 3 weeks prior to the date of the course to allow for adequate preparation. After enrolment and the payment of the course fee, you can either fetch your manual from our offices in Sinoville, Pretoria or we can courier it to you at an additional fee.

Do I get tested?

Yes. You are going to write a test with 15 multiple-choice questions and will need to achieve a score of 84% to be successful.  For successful completion of the course, participants will be expected to demonstrate their proficiency in CPR and the use of an AED.

Course Duration?

The course will take about 5 hours to complete.

Do I receive a certificate?

Yes. After successfully completing the course each participant will receive a numbered Resuscitation Council of Southern Africa (RCSA) certificate of competence in CPR, Choking and AED guidelines completion.

Training venue

We have a modern and well-equipped training facility in Sinoville but based on conditions the course can be facilitated at your premises.

Can I claim any loyalty rewards for attending?

All Discovery members aged 18 and older can earn points for completing this course. You will earn 2 500 points every year, for as many years as the certificate is valid. Points can be claimed by submitting your certificate to claimvitalitypoints@discovery.co.za

Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

The Course is Continuous Professional Development (CPD) accredited by the Health Professions Council of Southern Africa (HPCSA) for 7 CEU’s.

How long will the certificate be valid for?

The certificate will be valid for 2 years from the date of issue.
